Astrid Tetsche Sweeney
is a Danish/Irish performer and choreographer interested in interrogating movement through stasis, stimulus and isolation of individual body parts. Her recent work questions and distorts the perspective we have on the femme body through investigating forms of motion that could be considered otherly or uncanny. Her sources of inspiration include the adaptive resilience and diversity of nature, queer ecology, science fiction, Feldenkrais-inspired somatic movement techniques as well as the diverse range of dance styles she’s been exposed to throughout the course of her dance career. Born in Copenhagen, Astrid’s first encounter with dance was through training and competing as a traditional irish dancer. She was accepted into the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in 2012 and upon graduation joined Scottish Dance Theatre. She has since moved her base to Brussels and has been part of various projects as a freelancer, having worked with Iván Pérez (ES), La Verita Dance Company (BE), Luke Murphy (IE), Alexander Vantournhout (BE), Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui (BE) and Damien Jalet (BE).
